Overview
Ibas merged with Kroll Ontrack, both are the world's leading companies in data recovery, in 2006. This merger means we now possess the capabilities of Data Recovery experience and tools to handle the Data Recovery for the most notorious situations that could ever occur to your storage units.
Kroll Ontrack develops proprietary in-house hardware and software in order to ensure the best possible result for the customers.
To stay ahead in the technological development, we developed the Patan technology. Patan makes it possible to read individual platters from a hard disk analogously and convert data back into digitally readable files.
Together with our S10/100 clean rooms for disk technology, employees with superior competence, and over 25 years of experience, Kroll Ontrack offer state-of-the-art technology to resolve your problems.
Patan
We have developed special equipment to handle particularly difficult recovery assignments. The Patan technology (pattern analyser) analyse the magnetic patterns stored on a medium. It then converts them into readable data. The Patan machine is a result of proprietary software, electronics and positioning systems.

The machine is used both for advanced data recovery and quality assurance of data erasure.
There are several steps in the actual recovery process:
The first step is to customise our equipment to the individual hard disk. Based on information from the manufacturer and comprehensive analysis, we are ready to resolve very difficult problems.
The next step is to physically retrieve data from the damaged disk. We disassemble it in one of our clean rooms, clean and mark the platters. The platters are then fitted onto the special machine, which scans every single surface and picks up analogue signals from the disk. Finally these signals are digitised and converted into readable data stored on a new medium. The quality of the copy depends on how severely damaged the original disk was.
The last step is to analyse the copy in order to determine the logical structure of partitions, file systems and files. When the analysis is finished, the file system is rebuilt and data is accessible to the user again.
Kroll Ontrack continuously upgrades its hardware in order to handle new disk technology. The equipment is independent of hard disk type and model.
Clean Room
Kroll Ontrack has clean rooms with a total area of 100m2. These fulfil the requirements of S10 and S100 in the US Federal Standard 209D. The standard used by hard drive producers themselves at their factories.
The clean rooms are used for data recovery, computer forensics and quality assurance of data erasure. The clean rooms are 100 000 times cleaner than normal air measured by the number of particles of 5 micrometers and 0.5 micrometers.
Over 25 Years of Experience
Kroll Ontrack recover data from storage media that are either physically damaged and/or logically defective. This requires very specialised competence, which we have built up through years of experience.
We are extremely careful at all times not to aggravate the damage already done, which is something you risk by not going to a professional. We quickly find out the best solution for the customer within the limits set for delivery time and costs. In all recovery operations we achieve optimal results by taking the minimum of risks.
We require our technicians to possess good basic knowledge at all levels. Our staff consists of a highly skilled team of technicians, engineers and university graduates, with thorough product knowledge. Experienced technicians have to maintain comprehensive knowledge of the theoretical background of the various storage media, operating systems and applications. This includes intimate details of every single model or version. Our employees have years of experience of repairing hard disks.
The basis of our experience is built up by carrying out tens of thousands of recoveries during the past decades. We have seen and resolved almost any type of problems. We also develop our own tools to resolve these. You may rest assured that your storage medium is in the best at Kroll Ontrack.
